Secret Garden, or enchanted garden, is the general metaphor for the ideas found in these paintings. I think of nature as a place of wonder, escape, and restoration. In these paintings I hope to convey those aspects but with a couple other features I couldn't resist. I owe everything in my art to my mother, my art teachers, my friends, and the artists who paint and draw with me in my studio. In the years I've been painting, I have copied countless art works of the masters from years past: Vermeer, Rembrandt, Zorn, Sorolla, Payne, Parrish, Bouguereau, Klimt, Waterhouse and more. I have attempted to pay homage to them by incorporating elements - humor, satire, anachronism, and fantasy - to create a unique composition of my own. Above all, I want to paint works that are beautiful, mysterious, and compelling. Each of these paintings has a story waiting to be extracted by your imagination. Feel free to make up your own stories. Chick Curtis
